Best Practices

Writing Great Product Descriptions

Short Description (150 characters):

  • Highlight the most important feature or benefit
  • Think of it as a "hook" to get customers interested
  • Example: "Handcrafted from genuine Italian leather with RFID protection"

Long Description (unlimited):

  1. Start with benefits: Tell customers what problem your product solves
  2. Be specific: Include measurements, materials, and specifications
  3. Use formatting: Break up text with bullet points and short paragraphs
  4. Tell a story: Share what inspired you to create this product
  5. Include care instructions: Explain how to maintain or use the product

Optimizing Product Images

  1. Use natural lighting: Avoid harsh shadows and yellow indoor lighting
  2. Show scale: Include a common object for size reference when relevant
  3. Multiple angles: Upload 3-6 images showing different views
  4. Lifestyle shots: Show the product being used in real life
  5. Consistent style: Use similar backgrounds and lighting across all products
  6. Mobile-friendly: Remember that many customers shop on phones—images should be clear even at small sizes
  7. Square format works best: 1:1 aspect ratio ensures images display properly everywhere

Pricing Strategy

  1. Cover your costs: Factor in materials, time, fees and shipping
  2. Research competitors: Know what similar products sell for
  3. Use "Old Price" strategically: Show the value customers are getting with a discount
  4. Test and adjust: Don't be afraid to experiment with pricing
  5. Psychological pricing: $19.99 often converts better than $20.00
  6. Consider your audience: Students appreciate budget-friendly options

Using Variants Effectively

When to use variants:

  • Products that come in multiple sizes (S, M, L, XL)
  • Multiple colors of the same item
  • Different materials or finishes
  • Bundle options (single, 3-pack, 5-pack)

When NOT to use variants:

  • Completely different products—create separate listings instead
  • If you only have 1-2 options—just put them in the product name
  • When it makes the product too complex to understand

Variant tips:

  • Keep variant names simple and clear
  • Use standard sizing conventions when possible
  • Set accurate stock levels for each combination if stock varies
  • Price variants appropriately if price varies

Shipping Configuration

  1. Be realistic with delivery times: Under-promise and over-deliver
  2. Offer multiple options: Some customers want fast shipping, others want to save money
  3. Consider free shipping: Can be built into the product price and increases conversions
  4. Local pickup: Great for local customers and saves on shipping costs
  5. International shipping: Add as a separate method with longer delivery times

Using Keywords Effectively

  1. Think like customers: What would they search for?
  2. Include: Product type, material, color, size, use case, style
  3. Example: "wallet, leather, brown, RFID, handmade, bifold, mens"
  4. Don't overdo it: 5-10 relevant keywords is perfect
  5. Be specific: "blue cotton t-shirt" is better than just "shirt"

Remember: Your first product doesn't have to be perfect. You can always edit and improve it based on customer feedback. The best way to learn is to publish your first product and iterate from there!

Troubleshooting

"Product Name is required"

  • Product name cannot be empty
  • Maximum 50 characters allowed
  • Check that you've filled in the field before saving

"Image Upload Failed"

  • Ensure each image is under 10MB
  • Use supported formats: JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, or SVG
  • Try compressing the image with a tool like TinyPNG or Squoosh
  • Check your internet connection is stable
  • Try uploading one image at a time if experiencing issues

"Product Code already exists"

  • Product codes must be unique across all your products
  • Click the Generate button to create a unique code automatically
  • Or manually add numbers/letters to make it unique (e.g., "leather-wallet-brown-2")

"At least one shipping method is required"

  • Every product must have at least one shipping method
  • Fill in all required fields for the first shipping method:
    • Shipping method name
    • Delivery time
    • Price (or enable the "Free" toggle)

"Product Code contains invalid characters"

  • Product codes can only contain letters, numbers, and hyphens
  • No spaces, special characters, or emojis allowed
  • Use hyphens to separate words (e.g., "handmade-wallet")

Product Not Showing on Store

  • Verify the "Display on Store" toggle is enabled
  • Check that the product has been saved successfully
  • If using variants with stock tracking, ensure at least one combination has stock available
  • Clear your browser cache and refresh the page

Can't Add More Products

  • E2C Store has a limit of 100 products per store
  • If you've reached this limit, you'll need to delete unused products before adding new ones
  • Consider removing draft or outdated products

Variants Table Not Appearing

  • Make sure you've added at least one variant with options
  • Click Add / Manage Variants to configure variants
  • Check that you've enabled "Price varies" or "Stock varies" in the variant settings
  • At least one setting must be enabled for the variants table to appear

Image Not Displaying Correctly

  • Recommended image size: minimum 500×500px (1:1 aspect ratio)
  • Larger images may take time to process
  • If an image appears distorted, try uploading a square image
  • Re-upload the image if it's not displaying after a few minutes
