Abandoned Checkouts

Email buyers who left at the payment step with a link back to their cart, and follow up yourself on WhatsApp.

Some buyers fill in their details, reach the payment step, and then leave. Cart reminders send them up to two emails from your store with a button that takes them straight back to their cart.

Cart reminders are off until you turn them on. While they're off, nothing is saved about buyers who leave checkout.

Turn on reminders

Open Abandoned checkouts

Go to Marketing and click Abandoned checkouts under Win more orders.

Switch on Reminder emails

Turn on Reminder emails and click Turn on to confirm. You'll see "Cart reminders are on."

From then on, checkout shows buyers a short note under Proceed to Payment: "We may email you a reminder if you don't finish your order. You can unsubscribe from any reminder."

When reminders are sent

A checkout counts as abandoned when the buyer enters their email, reaches the payment step, and doesn't place an order.

EmailSentSubject
First reminderAbout an hour after they leave"You left something in your cart at Your store"
Second reminderAbout a day after they leave"Still thinking it over? Your cart is waiting"

Reminders stop as soon as the buyer orders, unsubscribes, or you turn reminders off. No one gets more than two. If a buyer comes back to checkout, their saved cart is refreshed and the timing starts again.

What the email looks like

The reminder matches your store's order emails. It shows your store name, a Return to Your Cart button, the items in their cart (up to 6) with prices, and the cart total.

  • From: your store name, sent from E2C's email address
  • Replies: go to your account email, so buyers can ask you questions
  • Unsubscribe: every email has a Stop cart reminders from Your store link. It only stops cart reminders from your store. Buyers still get their order emails.

Return to Your Cart puts the buyer back where they were:

  • Products (including colours and sizes) are rebuilt with today's prices and stock.
  • Event tickets, services, and products with custom fields are put back in their cart with the choices they made, as long as their cart is empty. If they've already started a new cart, it's left as it is.

Prices and availability are checked again before they pay, so a buyer can't check out with an old price or a sold-out item.

Track and follow up

The Last 30 days summary shows how many buyers left checkout, got a reminder, came back and ordered (with the value), and are still in carts.

Below it, each saved checkout shows the buyer, their cart, its value, when they were last active, and a status:

StatusMeaning
Not orderedStill open. The note underneath says whether a reminder is coming or has been sent.
RecoveredOrdered after getting a reminder. Click the order number to open it.
OrderedOrdered before any reminder was sent
ExpiredNo activity for 7 days. No more reminders are sent.

For checkouts that haven't ordered, you can reach out yourself:

  • WhatsApp opens a chat with a ready-made message that includes their cart link. It only shows when the buyer's phone number can be read as a full number.
  • Cart link copies their personal return link, to paste into any message.
