Payments & Payouts

How buyers pay, what E2C charges, when you get your money, how currency conversion works, and how to read and export the Payments page.

This page explains how money moves from your buyers to you. To connect a payment provider, see Payment Setup.

Only one online provider is offered at checkout: the one you chose as your default on Payments settings. Buyers don't get to choose between Stripe and PayPal.

What buyers can use also depends on what's in the cart:

  • Digital products: online payment only (Stripe or PayPal).
  • Physical products: online payment, Interac/Zelle, or Cash at Pickup. Cash requires the buyer to choose Local Pickup.
  • Events: online payment or Interac/Zelle.
  • Services: online payment, or Pay After Service if you allow it.

Cash, Interac and Zelle only work when the buyer is paying in your store's primary currency. If they've switched currency, they're asked to switch back.

The E2C transaction fee

E2C charges 1.99% of the order total, including shipping, on orders paid through Stripe or PayPal. The fee is taken automatically at the moment of payment, as a platform fee in the same currency the buyer paid in, so you never receive an invoice for it.

There's no E2C fee on Cash at Pickup, Interac e-Transfer, Zelle, free orders or pay-after-service bookings.

Stripe and PayPal also charge their own processing fees. These are set by them and depend on your account, country and the buyer's payment method. Both appear on the Payments page.

Example: a USD 50.00 order paid by Stripe → E2C fee USD 1.00 (1.99% rounded to the cent), plus Stripe's own fee.

Payouts: when you get your money

E2C never holds your money. Payments go directly into your own Stripe or PayPal account, minus fees.

  • Stripe: the charge is made on your connected Stripe account. Stripe pays out to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule, which you manage in your Stripe dashboard. If your Stripe account still needs information (Status: Incomplete), Stripe can't accept payments until you finish setup.
  • PayPal: the money lands in your PayPal balance as soon as the payment is captured. Moving it to your bank is up to you, through PayPal.
  • Cash, Interac, Zelle: you receive these directly. E2C isn't involved.

For payout dates, holds, disputes or chargebacks, check your Stripe or PayPal account. Those are handled by Stripe and PayPal, not by E2C.

Currency conversion

Your store has one primary currency, chosen when you set it up. Buyers can switch the currency their prices are shown in to any of the 15 supported currencies: AUD, AED, CAD, CHF, CNY, EUR, GBP, HKD, INR, JPY, MXN, NZD, RUB, SGD and USD.

  • Prices are converted using exchange rates from Stripe that E2C refreshes regularly.
  • With Stripe or PayPal, the buyer pays in the currency they chose, and the order is recorded in that currency.
  • Stripe converts the payment into your account's settlement currency at its own rate. The Payments page uses Stripe's actual conversion for Stripe fees.
  • On the Orders list, hover over a foreign-currency total to see it converted to your primary currency. Payments page totals are always shown in your primary currency.
  • PayPal can't be used when the buyer is paying in INR or AED.

Minimum order amounts

Online payments (Stripe/PayPal) have a minimum cart value. Below it, buyers are asked to add more items:

CurrencyMinimumCurrencyMinimum
AUD1.00INR50.00
AED2.00JPY50.00
CAD0.50MXN10.00
CHF0.50NZD1.00
CNY5.00RUB50.00
EUR0.50SGD0.50
GBP0.50USD0.50
HKD4.00

There's no minimum for cash, Interac, Zelle, free or pay-after-service orders.

Unpaid and abandoned payments

  • A Stripe or PayPal order still in Pending Payment after 8 hours is automatically marked Aborted. No money was taken, and any stock or event seats it held are released.
  • If a card payment fails, the order becomes Payment Failed and the buyer gets an "Order Error" email. Buyers can try again with a new checkout.
  • Interac e-Transfer and Zelle orders never expire. They stay Pending Payment until you click Mark Payment Received or Cancel Order.
  • If Stripe receives an amount that doesn't match the order total, the order is left unpaid for safety. Contact support if this happens.

Interac e-Transfer and Zelle

These are manual bank transfers, available to CAD stores (Interac) and USD stores (Zelle).

  1. The buyer chooses Interac e-Transfer or Zelle at checkout and places the order. It's created as Pending Payment, shown on your Orders list as Interac Pending / Zelle Pending.
  2. Their order confirmation email shows the exact amount and your deposit email (Interac) or your Zelle email/phone. Buyers are asked to add their name in the transfer note if it differs from the sender's name.
  3. When the money arrives, open the order and click Mark Payment Received. The order becomes Confirmed and stock is taken.
  4. For event orders, the tickets are emailed to the buyer at this point. For other orders, no email is sent, so tell the buyer if you'd like.

If the money never arrives, click Cancel Order. Refunds for these methods have to be sent back by you.

Refunds and fees

When you refund or cancel a paid Stripe/PayPal order from your dashboard, the full order amount is returned to the buyer from your Stripe/PayPal balance. Partial refunds aren't supported from the dashboard.

  • E2C fee: on Stripe orders, the 1.99% E2C fee is not returned when you refund.
  • Processor fees: Stripe and PayPal handle their own fees on refunds according to their policies. In most cases they aren't returned.
  • Buyers are told to allow 3-5 days for the money to show up.

See Cancel an order and Issue a refund.

The Payments page

Open Payments in the sidebar. The Period picker works just like the one on the Orders page.

Summary cards

All amounts are converted to your primary currency.

CardHow it's calculated
Total SalesThe total of every order that was paid or placed for pickup. Orders that are Aborted, Pending Payment, Processing Payment or Payment Failed are excluded. Refunded and cancelled orders are included here and subtracted under Refunds
Total FeesE2C fees + PayPal fees + Stripe fees on those orders
Total RefundsThe total of Refunded, Cancelled and Closed orders
Your RevenueTotal Sales − Total Fees − Total Refunds

Fees on orders you later refunded stay in Total Fees, because they generally aren't returned. Unpaid Cash at Pickup, Interac or Zelle orders that you cancel show up in both Total Sales and Total Refunds, so they cancel each other out.
